My last award letter earlier this year which advised of the April uprate, said the ESA would be paid until November; does this mean that they will conduct a benefits review of my circumstances before deciding whether or not to make a further award? If they don't reach the same decision as last time, would I automatically get put into the work related activity group instead or would I need to reapply completely? Thank you in advance for any advice you can give.

ESA is an indefinite award with scheduled reassessment.

The date in November is related to the payment of the Christmas Bonus.

You may be re-assessed then but it would be by coincidence.

If you phone the DWP then they can usually tell you when you should be reassessed but even then the date may move back.

When you are reassessed it will be a full review of your claim, new ESA50 and likely an assessment. They can award you the same as now, reduce it to WRAG in which case your award will be limited to a year (at most), unless you are receiving Income Related ESA, or they can remove the award entirely.

Hi, sorry I'm confused. Not sure why date in November would have anything to do with the payment of the Christmas bonus. Previously, the Christmas bonus has been mentioned on the letter but the end date has run to April the following year.

Also, if I were to query it on their telephone line and a review wasn't due, would a phone call from me be likely to trigger one?

Any further clarification would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi slowlysinking

There is no way of telling if a phone call would trigger a review, as Gordon has stated it could be a coincidence.
