Hello. I received my assessment report. But not the actual decision . Do you know if the Decision maker accepts the assessors report or do they ever change it?For my daily living part it looks like I will have to go for a mandatory decision. Can I also ask if you take a prescribed food supplement does it come under nutrient or managing therapy. Thank you .

Hi bobbiejo

Occasionally the decision maker may disregard or add something to the assessor's report, but mostly they follow the assessor's decision.

If you have been prescribed a food something, I would be listing it under medication.

Thank you , just another quick question please . I received the assessors report and the Assessor has only just put the basic notes . She hasn’t wrote anything about how my disability affects me . For example I have a perching stool for use in the kitchen , but I am unable to cook a meal etc due to my disability . I went into detail on my form and explained to my assessor but she just wrote has an aid , then ticked the box needs to use an aid or appliance to cook a simple meal . As for dressing I need help with dressing and always scored points , but the assessor wrote needs help with shoes but no other detail and ticked can dress and undress unaided . I am wondering am I missing something..? She hasn’t noted anything else about my needs regards dressing . This has happened on all Activities . I was expecting a detailed report . I sent in pages of explanation about how my disability affects me and went into detail during my telephone assessment.

Hi bobbiejo

I'm afraid that assessor reports rarely go into great detail, and they won't repeat things you said on your form unless they want to disagree in which they say something like, "The claimant says they have problems communicating, but I saw no sign of this when speaking to them."

Many claimants complain about omissions and mistakes - it is very common and sometimes people are left wondering if the assessor has simply muddled them with someone else or copied and pasted standard remarks. The assessor is offering their 'opinion', but you don't have to agree with them.

If you want to write to the decision maker challenging the report you can do so, but you will have to act quickly. There is no telling whether your comments will be seen in time. Otherwise, I'm afraid you will have to wait for your decision and put in for an MR if your fears are realised and you don't get the award you are hoping for.

Have a look at our Guide to PIP Appeals (which has the MR information in it), and you can't start drafting how you will challenge the report. As tempting as it is to complain about everything or call the assessor a liar - focus on where you haven't got the points you expected and start thinking how you can say the assessor was 'mistaken'!

Hello , Just thought I would let you know . After reading my assessment report and seeing that the assessor hadn’t noted all that I had told her and had marked me down on points . Hence I was preparing to go for an M R . Well today I received my decision letter and it seems the decision maker has over ruled the assessor and I carry on getting Standard daily living and enhanced mobility until 2033. Thank you moderators for all the work you do.
