House share and benefits was created by Emanie
Hi all,
I am on ESA highest and PIP highest for the disabilities I have. I have a friend who is in the same boat, and we have discussed house sharing because we both really struggle in our own.
I own my home and my friend rents so it would make sense to have them move here where I have plenty of space.
I presume I need to tell the DWP and Council about it, but I lack assertiveness, I get confused quickly and end up doing nothing.
I need to ask the best way to go about this to avoid loosing benefits or being treated as a couple.
I have never shared a house before.
Can anyone help me please?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Emanie
I'm sorry, but your question is outside the remit of this forum. You and your friend need to talk to a specialist welfare advisor - to check there aren't any loopholes. They will be able to tell you, and this is not an area we cover. I have attached a link to see if you can find a service in your area.
