Would a person be able to change their claim from UC to New Style ESA of their own accord.
Or if they ceased their claim to UC due to return to full time work, then would they be able to apply for New Style ESA further down the line ?

Claimants can claim UC and NS ESA at the same time, although the ESA will be deducted from the UC £ for £, however, as you point out there is a less than 16 hours per week work restriction for ESA.
Providing they can meet the Contribution Conditions requirement for NS ESA then they can make a new claim in the future or swap from UC to ESA.

Sorry another question on this.
Regarding voluntarily swapping from UC to CB ESA.
Would the forum know if this is generally a straightforward process ? Could the applicant carry their entitlement over, or would the applicant have to re-do an assessment.?

Providing the benefit being moved from is still in payment at the time that the benefit being moved to is claimed then there should be no need for reassessment. Be aware, a break of only one day will lose the existing award.
Just to remind you again, you can claim NS ESA and UC at the same time.

No, you need to make a new claim for NS ESA by contacting the ESA helpline, although they share legislation ESA and UC are still separate benefits.
