ESA - Claimant Commitment Telephone Call was created by Jac
Two weeks ago I started my online application for ESA and yesterday I received a text telling me I would receive a telephone appointment on Friday which is for me to agree to my Claimant Commitment.
I don't have a clue what to expect. Will this be a long call when they ask for all my medical details etc or will it just be a call in which they tell me what my Claimant Commitment is (what is it BTW?) and I agree verbally to it?
I've searched this website but can't find anything that mentions this.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jac
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.
We cannot tell you how long it will last, as no two are the same.
The conditions for claiming Universal Credit are set out in a "claimant commitment" that most people will have to accept at the beginning of their claim. If you are part of a couple, you will each have a separate claimant commitment that may be different from each other's.
People who may not need to accept a commitment include those who lack capacity, those who have exceptional circumstances where it would be unreasonable to expect them to agree a commitment (this is decided by the work coach on a case by case basis), or, From 15 February 2022 people with a terminal illness and less than 6 months to live were also excluded, and from 4 April 2023 this was extended to 12 months. There are 4 conditionality groups:
* Group 1. No work related requirements
* Group 2. Work-focused interview requirement
* Group 3. Work preparation requirement
* Group 4. All work-related requirements

Thanks Gary, I'll look at those links. My telephone call is due tomorrow so if there's anything that might be useful for others, I'll post it here.

Well it was nothing to worry about. Just a 15 to 20 minute phone call from a lady in the Job Centre. I had to agree to a list of commitments, none of which I can remember now, but she was very pleasant and helpful. I just have to wait for the large form to be delivered by post now.
