Question about UC Journal was created by Anneb
Bit confused about the Journal in Universal Credit. I spoke to the Citizens Advice UC Helpline just this afternoon, as I am my son’s Appointee, about impending move from ESA to UC…the advisor was very helpful and recommended I mention several things in the Journal but didn’t say there were different headings under the “menu” such as “work coach” and “payments” which I see mentioned in another answer here. So under what heading should I say I am Appointee, and under what heading should I mention the Supported Permitted Work my son does which is solely therapeutic under ESA supported permitted work rules, which I know don’t apply under UC, hence I need to explain about it in the Journal so they understand it's only therapeutic.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Anneb,
The question is what are you attempting to get from Universal Credit at the moment? I think the answer would be " payment ". I don't think you want advice from a Work Coach regarding training, volunteering etc. So after you have typed your Journal message you would choose the option " payments " from the drop down menu.
One other thing is that UC claimants who have been placed in the LCWRA conditionality group do not have a personal Work Coach.

Thank you for explaining that David !
I find this whole thing very worrying. I’ve been advised by both Citizen’s Advice and Welfare Rights that when I come to do the UC claim form that because my son does 2 hours a week Supported Permitted Work under ESA rules I have to tick the box that says my son is employed ! Even though that’s not true employment and even though he is in the LCWRA group with severe disability premium and enhanced disability premium and even though after last WCA the DWP said he would not need to do another WCA unless his health condition changes - it’s all just so crazy - so I have to explain about the supported permitted work in the journal.

Hi Anneb,
Thanks for your reply.
I would go along with what Citizens Advice say and hopefully there will be a smooth transition.
