Eczema - Mandatory Reconsideration

Eczema - Mandatory Reconsideration was created by Benny
Scotland/Adult Disability Claim

I detailed that due to the eczema on my hands and fingers, I am unable to fully bend my fingers resulting in poor grip. I have been awarded points for aids in Preparing Food (Gloves), Taking Nutrition (Easy grip cutlery) and Dressing (Button Hook)

For washing and bathing, I advised that I need to use a long handled sponge for the same reason of having poor grip, however, the decision has been made that "A long handled sponge would not be considered as an aid". There is no explanation as to why this is not counted as an aid.

I am wondering if this is correct or whether to appeal this in a Mandatory Reconsideration as I cannot wash myself effectively without it. I wonder if I should have outlined that it has an easy grip handle?

Is a long handled sponge not counted as an aid? I noticed on the PIP Guide that long handled sponge is mentioned in the Washing and Bathing section.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Benny

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.

I personally would have thought it was an aid, but it would depend on your explanation. I would speak to your local Welfare Rights Organisation for pointers.
