Migrating from income support to UC was created by hicky1
Hi we are supposed to migrate by the beginning of October but we have decided not to our circumstances have changed slightly in that we both now are pip claimants and feel that we can survive on that. I’ve tried to tell UC that we won’t be applying but now a visiting officer is planning to visit which we don’t want or need. Any advice would be gratefully received I feel like we are being forced to claim a benefit we no longer want to claim

Hi hicky1

You do not have to apply for UC, it is completely your decision.

Part of the visiting officers roll is to make sure you are completely aware of your decision not to claim as it can have knock on effects with other benefits/allowances.

If you claim any housing elements then you will need to claim UC, this will be what they will be looking at, they are there to help.

Thank you for replying we do not claim any housing element and I do appreciate they are there to help but at the moment they don’t seem to be listening to what we have said in regards to not claiming

Is there a reason why you don't want to claim Universal Credit ? Do you know how much you will receive if you do claim? I always feel a little concerned when someone says that they don't want to claim a benefit as they can survive without it. It may be helpful to make a claim so that you can put money by for unforeseen expenses or to treat yourselves occasionally . I appreciate that you may have very valid reasons for not wanting to claim and that it is your decision.
