Confused about Mobility allowance was created by slim
Evening, When I was checking for my allowance letter concerning 1/2 price car tax. I found letters from pip. I wish I knew how to email the copies but not tec minded. Anyway I came under t leap scheme and got a letter to say they where give Me low rate mobility. I lost it the time previous. In 2017 I only received 4 points forB "needs prompting to be able to undertake any journey etc ". In 2018 received letter to say .they had looked at my pip again and awarding me standard rate mobility.i really didn't take much notice of letter, as was happy with outcome. Looking at it now I am confused "
"It states 10 points " you need another person, and assistance dog to follow route of unfamiliar journey"
10points " you can't undertake any journey because it would cause you mental distress.
12 points " you can't follow the route of a familiar journey without another person,an assistance dog etc"
If I count this up it comes to 32 & the original 4 I was awarded at the beginning.
It really makes no sense to me, except DWP have made a typing error!!!! (Just be my luck).
Are you allowed 36 points for mobility ( I guess not)
Sorry this is so long winded. Afraid as usual of challenging DWP incase of new claim being sent out.

Hi slim,
Not really sure what's happening here, just seems to be a list of possible points. If they had awarded 12 or more then you should have got enhanced rate.
You can only get one amount of points fir any one descriptor. So legally they can't all apply anyway!
If 2 or more descriptors from the same set apply equally you should get the higher amount. If 2 or more descriptors from the same set apply unequally you should get the points for the activity which pertains to the most time.
Often DWP send out letters that make no sense, I fear this may be just another example!
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thank you for your reply, so are you saying if u got 4 points for activity b, then 10 points after leap you need another person to follow the route of unfamiliar journey that equals to 14 points. I went from no mobility pip till standard rate after leap. This was from 2017- 2022. Thanks again

Hi slim
If you went from 4 points to 10 points , you do not get 14 points.
You have gone from zero award to standard award (10 points).

I already had 4 points before leap, then got 10,10 & 12. Does the 4 points not count?
