A fit note question ESA to UC

A fit note question ESA to UC was created by Anneb
I’m Appointee for my adult son. After reading the B&W latest news and latest ESA to UC managed migration FAQs, I read what a person should say if they’re in the support group and asked to provide a fit note when moving from ESA to UC. My question is what should a person write on the UC claim for if it asks whether they have a fit note - my son has one which is nearly 20 years old when the DWP said not to provide any more. I know I’ve asked a similar question some time ago but now that more people are having issues with this fit note question I want to make sure that’s it’s okay to say I have one for my son even if it’s old.

Hi Anneb,

As far as I understand the Migration process is as follows for appointees. Hopefully you will not be asked to provide Fit Notes.
Appointees

"If you have an appointee who is responsible for making and maintaining your benefit claims, your Migration Notice letter will be sent directly to them. They will need to make the Universal Credit claim for you."

What you’ll need to apply
To apply online you’ll need:

your bank, building society or credit union account details

an email address

access to a phone

To prove your identity, you’ll need some documents such as your:

driving licence

passport

debit or credit card

payslip or P60

To complete your claim you’ll need to provide information about:

your housing, for example how much rent you pay

your earnings, for example payslips

any disability or health condition that affects your work

how much you pay for childcare if you want help with childcare costs

your savings and any investments, like shares or a property that you rent out

You might need an appointment with the Universal Credit team if:

they need more information

you cannot verify your identity online

You’ll be told if this appointment will be in a jobcentre or on the phone.

Hope this helps,
David

I think the DWP are interested in current fit notes, not fit notes that expired 20 years ago. If you answer Yes, they are likely to assume this is a current fit note. So probably better to answer No .

I just had a look at the previous time I asked about a fit note and Gary replied in #294601 that I do say my son has a fit note. It's just now I'm reading on the new migration FAQs about the issues with fit notes and I get my doubts.

I haven't found the Citizens Advice Universal Credit helpline all that helpful with this point :-(

PS - I think my worry is that the UC assessor gets it wrong as it appears in the recent ESA to UC migration FAQs and asks for a fit note when claimants moving from ESA support group LCWRA group migrate to UC, then what do I answer in the form yes or no to a fit note.

Hi Anneb

If you're going to answer yes, I would make it clear that it is twenty years old.
