2nd extension request refused for migration to UC was created by VIA
Hello,
I have been sent a migration notice to UC.
I was granted a 1st extension but I have now been refused a ‘ 2nd ‘ extension.
I was told that I could not have an extension because I was already granted one.
This contradicts:
- our guides and things I have read on the internet
- their own UC migration notice extension letter that says they have extended my deadline by 4 weeks and that I can call them if I need more time.
- the nice person I talked to who granted me the ‘first’ extension’ who told me that if the given extension I was given was not enough, I could call them and ask for more time again.
Maybe I am mistaken but I get the feeling they are told to automatically refuse a second extension request if we have already been granted a first extension.
When my 2nd extension was refused I was told it was because I already had one extension and was not asked why I needed more time to claim.
Surely this is wrong.
The guide says we can place or complaint in writing.
I have two problems, I am not far from the deadline and I have just realised my original migration notice and my UC migration notice extension letter, do not have an address at all.
It only give a phone number and does not give an email address for me to send my complaint to.
Also for them to refuse point blank my 2nd extension request without asking why I need a second one, is not making reasonable adjustments to my needs due to my disability or health problems.
Am I correct in thinking I can complain verbally.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Best wishes to all.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Via,
I think it's going to be a case of " If you don't at first succeed try,try and try again." So you will hopefully get a more empathetic phone agent and you will get a result. Let me know how you get on.

Hello David,
You were right.
I asked again and was give an eight weeks extension and the letter confirming that extension is going to be sent to me.
Of course I will check to make sure I get it, as I do not want my benefits to be stopped.
Best wishes

Having similar trouble been waiting for esa to update following an overpayment
But the loßt paper work were slow to respond and ,a visit to the job center to upload bank statements failed due to a system
Citizens advice are helping, said apply for an extension
UC said wait till there is a month to go should not be a problem
At the month point they said wait till there is two weeks to go
At two week point UC said NO extension just estimated figures ,watch our video on line it's easy
This is for my friend for whom o am a career
She has a neurological issue hence the help
Only two weeks to go ..
