Mandatory Migration from irESA to UC - should I apply for New Style ESA as well?

I am so confused. I am a single person and have been in the Support Group of income-related ESA since mid 2015 (having transferred from Income Support). As a result, I have full years of NI credits even though I haven't been able to do paid work.

I am undergoing managed migration to UC and have been told that I will automatically be placed in the LCWRA group without the need for fit notes or a WCA. Should I also apply for new style ESA as well (I understand that any award would be deducted from my UC)?

Under ESA, my NI contributions were Class 1 whereas they will be Class 3 now that I'm migrating to UC (I think). However, applying for new style ESA will automatically trigger a WCA and I am so unwell at the moment that I could not cope with that at all. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi Sarah Scrase

Firstly if the above is your real name it is advised to change it as a forum user name for internet security reasons.
You say ....However, applying for new style ESA will automatically trigger a WCA.
That is incorrect. If you were to apply for New Style ESA you will be given LCWRA status automatically.

Hope this helps.
