ESA to UC migration has put me in new style?? was created by Shashi
Hi, could someone please help me understand the following
I was awarded ESA support group with SDP in 2011. l have recently moved on to UC through managed migration. They have deducted £598 away from my £1826 UC claim saying that i have now been placed in new style ESA because I was getting contribution based and income related ESA. How is this possible? I thought you could only get IR or CB ESA?? Will new style ESA pay the short fall or do I no longer get this because i am on UC? Will this effect any other payments I receive like PIP? I did receive the cost of living payments last year will I have to pay that back because I was getting both types of ESA?
I apologise if I'm not making any sense I'm just so confused as I have not had any letters from ESA or UC about this it was written in the journal. I've tried questioning it through the journal but I'm getting no clear response other than contact new style ESA.

Replied by David on topic ESA to UC migration has put me in new style??
Hi Shashi
When you filled in the ESA1 back in 2011 you applied for Contributions Based ESA. You would only have been assessed for Income Based ESA if you ticked the appropriate box. Some people migrated to ESA from Incapacity Benefit also in 2011.
With UC Managed Migration your Contributions Based ESA is turned into New Style ESA which is basically the same thing. But the New Style ESA is deducted £ for £ from your Universal Credit. So you end up with the same amount as if you had the full UC payment because you get the New Style ESA payment as well.
None of this affects PIP and you won't have to repay your Cost of Living payments.
