RE: Tenancy Agreement for UC was created by Kuju2
Hiya all,
I am currently in the process of migrating from ESA to UC. I am aiming to apply next month. I am currently scanning all the documents I might need, so far these are the documents I have:
Proof of ID:
Passport
P60
Birth Certificate
Debit card
Proof of housing costs:
Tenancy Agreement
Letter from letting agent as tenancy agreement is 10 years old
Council tax bill dated 23rd March 2025 for year 2025-2026
Electricity bill
Water bill
Proof of Internet
bank statement showing rental amount plus bank document showing standing order
Other Documents:
National insurance number
Proof of ESA award dated 7th Feb 2025 for ESA award 2025-2026
Details of disabilities
Latest bank statement
Details of all bank accounts
I just have a few questions about some of the documents:
1) Should scanned copy of passport be in colour or greyscale?
2) Tenancy Agreement is 15 pages long. Should I scan all of it? Amount of rent is on Page 2 & 4, Details of landlord on page 3 and parties signatures on page 15. Do I scan all of the document or just these pages?
3) Should council tax bill be 2024/25 or 25/26 also the same for ESA Letter? Also should council tax letter be scanned in colour or greyscale?
I know it sounds as though I'm being over cautious, but I just want things to go smoothly. Thanks in advance for your help. May have more questions which I will put on a separate post

Hi kuju2,
I'll try answer your questions to the best of my knowledge:
1) Should scanned copy of passport be in colour or greyscale? When I had to submit my passport upload, I was told to send the front and back pages in colour, and also a photo of me holding my passport outside my front door.
2) Tenancy Agreement is 15 pages long. Should I scan all of it? Amount of rent is on Page 2 & 4, Details of landlord on page 3 and parties signatures on page 15. Do I scan all of the document or just these pages? I would scan all of these to be on the safe side. The upload link from the UC department usually contains a link that allows only 10 uploads at a time, so you may have to request 2 or 3 links from them to upload everything. Just remember to include in the description what is included, but I can see by your written English that you seem to be very thorough - so hopefully everything will go smooth for you.
3) Should council tax bill be 2024/25 or 25/26 also the same for ESA Letter? Also should council tax letter be scanned in colour or greyscale? We are finishing the 24/25 season of Council Tax at the end of this month - based on if you're on a 12 month payment. If you were on the standard 10 month payment, then it would've finished in January 2025. 25/26 bill starts in April this year. Greyscale is fine with this, as it saves on colour ink costs. ESA is also fine in grey.
Chris.

Hiya Chris thank you so much for your reply. Just a couple of questions:
1) When you say front and back page of passport, does it mean front cover and photo pages? Also not sure how to get pic of myself holding passport outside front door, may have to ask a friend to take it for me. For photo otuside from door, is it passport open at photo page or passport closed?
2) I pay council tax over 10 months so last payment was in Jan. Therefore, which council tax bill would be best, last year's or the one starting in April(1st payment 24th April)?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi kuju,
I mean the front part that shows your photo and the back part that has your emegency contacts and passport number on them. I believe it was them 2 pages, however this was 4 or 5 years ago when I completed this. I also had to do a selfie, holding my passport in my left hand and taking the photo with my right - it was very difficult trying to fit it all in, and holding it, but I managed.
Also, any council tax bill will work - this is simply proof that you're living in the property you've told them, so either is fine
Hope this helps answer your questions - please feel free to come back, should you need further assistance with anything else.
Chris.

Hi, I submitted my migration last week. I opted for passport and credit reference file for verifying id. I was asked to input my name, dob and expiry date and passport number all as it appeared on my passport. The credit reference file was taen from transunion which I had a copy of. I was asked questions about some info like have I got a mobile contract, loans etc and my address. I put the info exactly as it appeared in the file and I was verified online having answered all sucessfully. I got my credit reference files from checkmyfile they do a free 1 month trial. lucky I did as the transunion info had a slight variation of my address. I upload my tenancy agreement but only the pages that had the info they needed and last years council tax bill. Next day I got an agent feedback in my journal saying that my housing costs have been verified. I sign in each day since but nothing has been asked of me since. Hope this helps.
