Verify i-d for ESA-UC question was created by Twentyfold
Please can you clarify, when migrating from ESA to UC, if making a telephone application, how does one verify I-d please? Is this done on the phone? I will be moving from the support group. I would not be able to attend a face-to-face appointment due to my condition.

Hi Twentyfold
The DWP would do a Telephone ID check. If this failed then you would get a Home Visit from a member of the DWP Visiting Team.

Thank you for your reply. I see no reason why a telephone I-d check would fail. Please can I also just ask, why does I-d need to be verified if my existing claim, for esa support group, has been in place for many years? Thanks

Hi Twentyfold
Good question. I don't know the answer. I wonder what Forum members think?

Yes thanks, I would be very interested to know what other forum members think. If someone is in receipt of esa (eg, support group) for a number of years or a decade or more, due to a long term health condition, then they already have the persons I-d. I’d like to know why we have to re-apply for something else (UC) and re-verify our identity at this stage? Thank you.

Hello
I too am wondering this as it is now proving very difficult to achieve.
Has anyone approached the DWP on this, or MP, just who can we ask?
I think its an insane waste of time and resources, home visits, visits to jobcentres ,to re ID those on long term disability benefits, couldnt they have a process like passsports, driving licence etc if your name changes or other details you can update it to DWP, surely.
Is it the benefits software, surely the contract they had for maintaining the software might include with fore sight the need to amend?
isnt this more cost saving than this job lot approach?
