Incorrect ESA to UC migration stated by an automated system. was created by jasonlegs
Hello
I having been receiving income related ESA (support group) and have filled in the form to migrate to universal credit. I received a letter today stating that my "contribution based ESA will change to new style ESA". Then on the back of the letter it says my award of income related ESA will end on 10th of April and that they will write to me separately about my universal credit claim. Then it says that the decision was made solely by an automated system and that they can look at it again without using automation.
My question is – is this a simple mistake possibly? Why would they stop my income related ESA and states that I have received contribution based ESA?
Also on the first page that they state they will contact me to book an appointment with a work coach and that the work coach will explain what I need to do to complete my new style ESA claim.
Someone from DWP rang me yesterday to say that I would be on new style ESA and that the letter would be sent out. She didn't explain much only that it was changing and I didn't understand that either.
I don't understand any of this and I'm not in any position to work. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanking you in advance.

Hi jasonlegs
Everyone in the UK who has been claiming Benefits such as Income Support and Income Based ESA is being moved across to Universal Credit this year.
Contributions Based ESA will in future be called New Style ESA but it is basically the same thing. Though with NS ESA everyone has to agree a Claimant Commitment. But this should not be an issue and can be done in a 10 minute phone call with a Jobcentre Work Coach.
Have a read of Forum member's experiences in the links--

Let me know how you get on.

Hi jasonlegs
You must have been in receipt of Contributions Based ESA previously. Did you get a P60 every year posted by the DWP?
Yes, as you are in the Support Group your Claimant Commitment will be a basic one just asking for the reporting of a change of circumstances.
