Receiving ESA Support group, UC LCWRA but not PIP. Future changes advice/help was created by deosil
I've been on ESA Support group for a long time due to mh struggles, and have recently been given UC LCWRA as well. The changes coming in 2028/29 says that ESA support group will change to Unemployment Insurance and will be a time limited benefit. And it says that UC LCWRA will be a component of PIP, but I don't receive PIP currently and I'm afraid I'm going to lose everything and it's made me scared. Would it be a good idea to try and claim PIP now or wait till everything changes in the future? I'm a bit confused and scared about it all to be honest.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi deosil
We can't tell you what to do here. You have to do what is best for you, but if you have been in LCWRA for a long time, you might want to consider applying for PIP now, regardless of any changes that are coming in the future. Applying for PIP can feel arduous, but you have time to look at the guides here and see if you want to claim now or later.

You are not alone in your concerns. Many who claim ESA/UC are not eligible for PIP so are worried about what will happen when the changes eventually apply to exisiting claimants. One of biggest problems at the moment is lack of information, how it will all work and the details are very scant.
