Question 1) how are his benefits affected? ( I am his appointee)
My grandson is due to go into rehab for drug misuse, he is currently on UC and has LCWRA, im told his benefit will not be affected however his PIP maybe, he is on enhabced rate for daily living and mobility. He is going to be funded by Social Services and assessed financilly with how much his contribution will be.
Question 2) how are his mothers benefit affected ( I am her appointee)
His mother has just migrated on to UC and is his carer, she transitional Protection of £729.44 per month currently from her legacy benefit of IS. She is also is recipt of enhanced PIP for daily living and mobility and has a light touch award. Im told that she may be able to keep the carers allowance as she is only temporarily not caring for him for 12 weeks? If she loses the carers allowance she will lose her TPE.
Her TPE was made up of enhanced disability premium, Severe disability premium, SDP

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi anneisit
Your questions are outside the remit of this forum, and so I would recommend checking with a specialist welfare advisor or the DWP for guidance. I have included a link to see if you can find a specialist service in your area advicelocal.uk/
1) You should inform the DWP that your grandson is going to be in rehab. His PIP should stop after he has been in there for 28 days and then start again when he comes out. You will need to inform them he is out.
2) His mother's carer's allowance should stop after 28 days and then start again when her son comes out of rehab. There are some exceptions to carer's allowance - but I think it is unlikely they will allow her to keep it for the other two months. However, this is not our area of expertise which is why you need to check with the DWP.
