Didn't report hospital stay , need advice pls was created by Honsi
Last year I was on Esa and PIP, in Dec I spent 3 nights in hospital. I didn't know I was supposed to report it to the DWP. I thought it was only for stays of 28 days or more. It didn't even cross my mind.
I'm now on UC(LCWRA) and ADP, I'm due to start a ADP review in on 19th August. I noticed on the review form (I saw online) it says if you have stayed in hospital you have to phone Scottish Social security (SSS) before filling in the review form, Ive been on ADP since April.
I don't know what to do, Ive been trying to contact local welfare rights but no one has replied. Should I contact PIP and ESA and tell I was in hospital or just phone SSS and inform them?
I'm really worried they're going to be really punitive and my life miserable. It was a genuine mistake.

Hi Honsi
DWP only want to know if you are in hospital for over 28 days, if you stay in hospital over 28 days your PIP will be suspended, it will be restored once you are discharged.from hospital.

Thanks for your reply, I'm seeing conflicting information about this I thought it was 28 days but
You must tell the office that pays your benefit as soon as possible if you:
go into hospital for one night or longer
go into a rehabilitation centre for one night or longer

Hi Honsi
It does say you should inform them immediately - but the DWP is realistic. The last thing most people on benefits are thinking about when they are admitted to hospital is to inform the DWP - they have many other things to think about. You are not going to get into trouble because you didn't tell them you had a three-day stay in hospital last year. Many thousands of people will not have informed them. What they are really interested in is where claimants are an in-patient for more than 28 days and therefore their PIP should be suspended until they return home. I know it is worrying you - but fill in your form and then try to forget about it. The most they will do is check with you the length of your stay.

Thank you. Ive managed to get a welfare rights worker to help with my form so that will be good for my stress levels. I appreciate your reply, it has helped.
