ESA to UC migration - Council Tax query was created by Searching65
Hello,
Truly sorry if this has been asked and answered before - I've tried searching the forum but I have severe reading difficulties so very limited in what I can read particularly online.
I'm currently migrating from ESA support group to UC (online application submitted and id verified). I was initially told I would stay in the support group and receive same amount, and first payment would be made in December. However I expect this to be delayed due to a fit note being requested.
My questions are about council tax. Will my CT reduction entitlement be reduced now that I'm migrating to UC? Do I need to inform the council that I'm migrating? If so, when?
My council is incredibly difficult to deal with and dishonest. I need to arm myself with proper information and official sources before I approach them.
Grateful for any advice.
Many thanks

Hi Searching65
You will need to inform the Council Tax department of your local council when you receive your first UC payment.
Which council are you with ?

Thank you David. I'm sorry, for personal reason I'd rather not mention said council.

Hi Searching65,
Each council has its own council tax reduction scheme. Sometimes the rules can be different for those on ESA and those on UC.
The DWP may have informed your local council, but if there's no obvious sign of that, let them know. You may need to reapply.
By the way, if you were in the support group then you shouldn't be being asked to provide fit notes. You may be experiencing the same issue as me.

Thanks very much, Ant. I will get in touch with the council re: CT. I'm just afraid they'll mess it up.
The DWP case manager replied to my message today and confirmed that I had been awarded LCWRA so didn't need to provide a fit note. It looks like this request to provide a fit note is added automatically to the journal, which is not helpful.
I'm not someone who understands DWP's rules and requirements so it really helps when people like yourself and David share their wisdom!
