Appointee bank accounts was created by Tee2512
I have my son’s PiP paid into my bank account as his appointee . He has autism and ADHD. I claim Universal Credit as they pay towards my rent as I’m on a low income . I had my review call with them today and was discussing that my sons pip goes in my account as he does not have the capacity to manage money or budget etc . I then transfer small amounts of money to his bank account otherwise he will just impulse buy things . The agent suggested that I open a separate bank account for the pip to go in to so that it’s not showing as an income into my account . Has anyone else experienced this ? Can anyone recommend a bank that would be able to open an account in his name but with me as an appointee ? Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tee2512

The PIP agent should not be giving advice regarding UC payments into bank accounts and you could make a complaint about this on your UC Journal.
The DWP standard advice for Appointees is that the disabled person's Benefits should go into their personal bank account. There is no need to open a separate bank acccount.
Also the DWP has new powers under the PAFER Act 2025 to see what income is going into a bank account. So if I were you I would not do anything.
The DWP has now introduced the Annual Automated Claimant Review for all UC claimants so you like everyone else will have a review and as long as the agent is not completely incompetent will know that you are an Appointee.
