Pip extension given for 22 days was created by jaynedreamwindow
Hi
My end date of my pip award - enhanced on both - was due to finish on 12th September 2027.
I just got a letter to say I have an extension of 22 days so my award will end 25th September 2027
I rang up pip today to ask why this had happened eg what was the point of a 22 day extension
The person didn’t make it any clearer for me
Should I appeal this extension in the light that others have extensions of between 1 and 6 years?
It doesn’t seem fair that some people now don’t have to worry about reviews so quickly
Yet for me this news has caused anxiety due to now wondering what will happen
Before the news of the extensions I had geared myself up for a review at some point - now I don’t know what will happen - I know that’s often the case - but why do the DWP think it’s ok to suddenly make changes that are not explained to claimants - it’s just typical of the way the DWP treats people as though it’s ok to do things which have a huge impact on us without any regard to the high levels of anxiety the pip process causes
Just to add something else - my original award was for 3 years and standard daily living ending in September 2026.
After winning a tribunal another year was added and I went up to enhanced on both until September 2027
I have just read the article on here for members and I’m grateful for that info but as the article says, there is not enough info available as yet to know the reasoning behind the extensions

Hi jaynedreamwindow
That's bizarre. I'm not surprised they couldn't explain it to you, because it is clearly nonsense. I would ring again - as you will definitely get a different person. Ask again if the 22-day extension is correct. If they insist your extension is still 22 days, then I would ask for a callback from a case manager to explain the decision, telling them this is causing you a huge amount of anxiety. Also, you would like an explanation for why other people seem to be given, at a minimum, a 1-year extension. If they are difficult, ask them what the process is for appealing this extension. You clearly don't have much time to try and get them to change this.

Thank you - I wanted to ask for a case manager today but I lost confidence to make a fuss as the man I spoke to kept saying don’t worry - well I am worried ! They ( DWP) have our lives in their hands and doing this at the same time as all the news came out about the Timms interim review and the uncertainty that creates is actually cruel when they are dealing with people who are more likely than not to have high levels of anxiety around this

I rang DWP up and spoke to a case manager - he was no help at all and just said I shouldn’t compare my extension with others

hi jaynedreamwindow
Well done to you for plucking up the courage to try to pursue this. It makes me so mad. I still don't get why you have been given 22 days. Of course you are going to compare what you've been given to others. Your only option now is to try and involve your MP and/or put in a formal complaint. You can't actually appeal the extension length because it is discretionary - which is why you would need to put in a formal complaint.
Of course, your third option is to accept the extension. You haven't said that you have been sent a form yet and the fact is they might extend it again, nearer the time. Clearly there is no guarantee, but it is a possibility.
Sorry, I have no other ideas.
