Is it possible to request letters be sent by post instead of UC journal

Hello,

Just under a year ago, I was transferred from ESA to new style ESA+UC - still in support group. Despite liaising with both ESA/UC teams, ensuring they had all the necessary information, making sure they understood I was being transferred, asking if there was anything else they needed from me and explaining that I didn’t want to find myself dealing with overpayment, I just saw on my bank statement that my UC had been cut in half.

I checked the UC website and a journal entry from end of July with a PDF letter re: overpayment had been added. Previously, every time there had been a Journal entry I would receive a notification by email prompting me to check the journal. But not this time. The letter gave me 30 days to dispute it, which I missed. I have a lot of health issues and disabilities and trying to survive over 40 degrees temperature in my flat this summer didn’t leave me much energy to do anything else.

I’m also neurodivergent so these email prompts are necessary for me. Funnily enough, they failed to send one when overpayment was raised. I can’t read easily on screen and those scanned PDF letters are a nightmare for me.

Can I request that from now on they send all correspondence by post? I tried to ask for information but they simply stated that money was reduced because of overpayment. Doh!

Also, the money I currently have is less than the figure I put on my application last year. I assumed they’d check with my bank so never thought of updating the figure they use. Can someone please explain how to go about it? How often does one update the income figure? How do you update it? I understand very little about these things.

Any information/clarification would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi Searching65

Rather ominously the DWP state Universal Credit is digital by default. So in normal circumstance nothing is sent through the post about UC unless it's a response to a mandatory reconsideration.
You can ask for a telephone only claim and they are supposed to send out letters but this service is supposed to be extremely poor. Have you investigated using the accessibility options on your phone to get content of a UC journal etc spoken to you.
As far as savings are concerned you are supposed to inform the DWP of changes. It is only wages that are automatically fed to the DWP via Real Time Information.
