WCA reassessment query was created by janerg63
Hello,
I was hoping to get some advice about Work Capabilty Assessments please. To be honest I find it hard to keep up with the situation regarding the WCA. I understand it will probably be abolished at some stage in the coming years, however, I wondered if I could please have some advice about what the current situation is. I was awarded LCWRA in March 2025. When I requested the medical report the prognosis stated ‘I advise the client should be re-referred in 2 years’. I did provide a lot of evidence when I was assessed (it was a paper based assessment not in person) including a letter from my psychiatrist stating that it was likely I would never be fit for work (I am currently in my early sixties). My psychiatrist and my mental health nurse also stated that I have severe and enduring mental health problems and that assessments are extremely stressful for me. The health professional who wrote up the WCA report noted ‘evidence reviewed indicates severe mental health issues which are ongoing with prolonged specialist input also suicidal ideation’ at the end of the report it is stated that ‘although the psychiatrist letter states they will likely never be fit to work, unable to support a severe condition with mental health difficulties at this time however with the evidence provided, 2 years is most appropriate at this time’ - I really don’t understand that summing up to be honest and I feel that 2 years does not seem long giving my difficulties. In a previous question I posted on the forum around the time I was initially told I had LCWRA (April 2025) but did not know the prognosis was for re referral in two years I had a response from David saying there was a 5 year backlog of WCAs and felt relieved that, hopefully, I would not have to endure one for a long time. As it now getting quite close to the 2 years since I was found to have LCWRA I really hope that there is still a backlog and would appreciate a response regarding what the current situation is if possible please. I feel worried sick about the thought of being re assessed and, as my health has not improved, hope that this will not be for a long time. Many thanks in advance Jane

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi janerg63
The backlog of reviews for claimants with LCW and LCWRA has not diminished. So I think that it is highly unlikely you will have a WCA before you reach State Pension age especially considering the nature of your condition and that your WCA was paper based.
