PIP Telephone Assessment Any Advice? was created by Meconopsis
I've just found out that my phone assessment is on 21st of this month. Worried about my memory letting me down. Does anyone have any advice? Or is there some I've missed on the website? Thanks.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Meconopsis
Inside the Guide to PIP Claims and Reviews, there is advice about preparing for a telephone assessment. It walks you through how to prepare, tricks to look out for from the assessors, among other things. I would advise you to make sure that your assessment is recorded. Even if you ask for it to be recorded, if you are able to do a recording yourself, then you would be advised to do so. You don't have to ask permission to do that.
As you are worried about your memory, make a bullet-point list of anything you really want the assessor to know so you can refer to it. You should always be asked if there is anything you want to say before the end, which is your chance to mention anything you have forgotten.

Dear Meconopsis,
Besides all BIS's good advice, having ADHD myself, I would recommend you have a companion with you for the phone call. Tell the assessor that you have asked your companion to help you stay on task as you struggle with this [you do!].
Ask the companion beforehand, to help you answer what you are asked and not something else.
Ask them also, to look over your bullet points and see you tick them off, without missing any. As BIS says, if the assessor doesn't cover them all, at the end you should be asked if there's anything else you want to say, so cover missing ones then.
I suggest your companion has paper and a bold felt tip, so they can write you a quick message if necessary. If you want to read a message or just feel overwhelmed, stay in control, tell the assessor you need to take a moment.
And if you need the loo, say so and go!
Hope it goes well,
Denby

Thanks. I can find the part about face to face assessments but I can't find the bit about phone assessments is it separate?
