PIP Assessment Audio Recording

PIP Assessment Audio Recording was created by Panda
I recently had a PIP face to face assessment, which was audio recorded by the assessor on her laptop computer with my full knowledge and consent.

Subsequently, I contacted Capita, as advised by the assessor, and requested a copy of the recording. My request was noted and I was told that i would receive a txt message with downloading instructions.

However, a few days later I received a telephone call from Capita, who declined my request on the grounds that the recording of my assessment did not contain "security identification" details such as my name etc. and that Capita had very strict rules and would not send out such recordings.

I remember that immediatelly after the assessor started the recording, she asked for my driving license and typed information from it into her system, so my identification is not in doubt.

The DWP's recent guidelines "PIP Assessment Guide" updated 31 Aug 2026 (before my assessment) states :-
1.6.63 APs should use the audio recording solution provided by the Authority and must ensure that a copy of the recording is provided to the claimant upon request, including any reasonable requests for multiple copies.

That guideline seems straightforward and unambiguous to me.

Does anybody have any advice / thoughts regarding this.

Hi Panda
I thought I had heard all their excuses, but this is a new one on me. I would contact Capita again and tell them that they can identify it's you, and the fault is theirs, not yours. I would also say that you are going to put in a Subject Access Request for all information they have on you, including a transcription of that recording. Be aware they may have already deleted it (though they shouldn't have. I would also put in an official complaint to Capita.
