Total newbie - help please was created by Jules1
Hello everyone. Joined today & need advice. My husband is 59 & has worked as a self employed builder all his working life. Within the last couple of years he’s been struggling with knee pain. His knees are basically worn out. He has been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. This week he has been signed off work for 6 weeks. We have never claimed any benefits before & don’t know where to start. Can anyone advise us what we should apply for. Feeling hopeful after joining this group & TIA

Hi Jules1

I would start by using the facilities that are available online. For instance a Benefits calculator such as Entitledto.co.uk.
Have a read of the following from Citizens Advice.www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/benef...-benefits-can-i-get/
Also have a read of the BenefitsandWork guides for claimants: benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants
In addition I think that it would be a good idea to make a personal contact. You could try organisations such as CMA ( community money advice ) or Citizens Advice.

Let us know how you get on.
