NS ESA eligibility was created by Paisley78

I was a full-time carer for my husband for 12 years prior to his death and claimed Carer's Allowance. I thought this made me eligible to claim NS ESA.

The ESA claim was closed as it would be credits only and I am already in receipt of Universal Credit. I'm still waiting for a letter to be sent.

I think that NS ESA provides Class 1 NI credits, and UC provides class 2, so it would be better if the claim was left open, wouldn't it?

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Unfortunately in your circumstances as decribed there is not a choice as " A New Style ESA NI credits only award cannot continue alongside a UC claim. "
