What other benefits can you get while on DLA?

I have found there are a number of 'help schemes' aimed at people on high rate DLA. But these are not well advertised.

So far I have found:

free travel card, council tax reduction, free heating insulation, free cinema card.

Are there any others?

It it High Rate Care DLA or or High Rate Mobility DLA (or both) you receive, as there are some differing entitlements depending on which is received. Also is it England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland you reside in?

Entitlement to things such as the concessionary bus pass can vary depending on the policy of the council area you live in (and in some cases you may qualify to be accompanied by a carer on busses in your area). Also in some local authority areas it gives either free or cheap travel on local trains within a specified area.

If in a wheelchair you may travel without a railcard and receive a discount, however this only applies to 'Anytime' fares which in general are much more expensive than other tickets (Off Peak or Advanced etc) bought using a disabled railcard. This is particularly so over long distances.

The Cinema card is not free. You have to buy it (£5.50 for one year - it was formerly for three years but it has been changed) and it gives free admission to a person accompanying the card holder.

If you receive High Rate Mobility, there is automatic qualification for a Blue Badge. Also you can tax a car free in the disabled class if it is for your own use (or use by someone on your behalf for picking up shopping or prescriptions etc). Also you can make use of the Motability scheme to lease or buy a car.

An award of DLA may also make a difference to any means tested benefits you may claim.

There may also be local concessions to museums, theatres or other entertainment places, but these are at the discretion of the relevant operators/owners and you would need to check with the relevant operators.
