ESA - Decision Makers Information was created by C&L
Hi Everyone,
I am claiming ESA on MH grounds. I went for my medical in July this year. I was one of the fortunate ones – I was awarded ESA first time around.
However, my relief was short lived. I’ve just had another ESA50 drop through the letter box for me to complete and return to ATOS. So all the aggravation and stress starts again.
Before I go to my next medical, I would like to try and find out how many points the decision maker awarded me on my last medical and what they were awarded for.
How do I go about trying to get this information?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

You can fill in a Subject Access Request; there is a guide on how to do this in the Members Section under Other Benefits Info.
I have looked at mine and I cannot see a reference number for the form, but the DWP are used to this type of request so it should not be a problem.

Thanks Gordon.
Does the SAR this tell you about how many points I was awarded and what they were awarded for?

The main reason I am asking is because I have mental health and alcohol abuse problems.
It would be nice to know if my points were awarded for my MH or my alcohol problems.

Hi C&L
It is possible to score points for alcohol problems in IB, but not ESA, or at least not directly for alcohol problems.
To obtain your medical report it would probably be quickest to phone Jobcentreplus and and ask for a copy of the medical report (ESA85). This will tell you which activities you scored points for.
Regards
Derek

Does the medical report actually tell you or do you just draw your own conclusions from it? i.e Is it plainly obvious?
