Hi Gordon
What does the abbreviations (CB) and (IR)stand for after Employment and Support Allowance.
Example ESA(CB); ESA(IR)
I have checked the Abbreviations list and all it has is the following:
"
ESA Employment and Support Allowance (due to replace IB for new claimants from 27 October 2008)"
I have also checked the members section and I can't find it.
many thks.

That's pretty much it I am afraid.
IB claimants who are successfully transferred to ESA, will initially receive ESA(CB) and will be placed in the WRAG (most) it the Support Group (a few). Those in the WRAG will have there ESA(CB) limited to a year, from the date of transfer, after which they will be eligible for ESA(IR), which is means tested.

CB means contributions-based.
IR means income-related.
ESA(CB) is like IB - it's based on whether you've paid sufficient NI contributions and isn't means-tested.
ESA(IR) is like IS - it doesn't matter whether you've paid any NI contributions, but it's means-tested.

ESA(CB) or Contrinution Based ESA, is for those that have paid sufficient NI credits in the previous qualifying years.
ESA(IR) or Income Related/Income Based ESA is for those that haven't.
Although the rates are the same, there are differences betweem the two. for example ESA(CB) is liable to tax, wheras ESA(IR) isn't.
This link explains some of the other factors that affect the two.

I have read somewhere that as 'himself' gets Pension Credits that I won't be eligible for ESA (ir)at the end of all the initial palaver of migration etc, does anyone know if the Pension Credit Guarantee will have an increase in it to cover the loss of my benefit from SDA ?
