I got 39 points at the ATOS medical and yet was put into the WRAG. Saw a Disablity Employement Advisor yesterday who couldnt believe the doctor hadnt put me into the support group espically as I had taken a lot of evidence to hte medical and the doctor had said I woudlnt be asked to work. Surely if you get so many points, it makes sense to be into the s group. And why would a doctor suggest I might be albe to return to work after 18 months when I have a progressive, degenerative neurological illness wiht no cure!!! Perhaps he knows of a miracle cure - my neuro said he'd love to hear about it if he does!!

Whether or not you are put in the support group doesn't depend on the number of points you get.

If you want to know who is or isn't put in the support group, take a look at our guides to claiming ESA which explain it in detail.

The support Group is not points based, you need to demonstrate you meet one or more the criteria. A full list of these can be found on page 25 of the Understanding ESA guide in the Members Area.

If you believe you meet the requirements for the Support Group, you can ask for a re-consideration or Appeal the Decision to put you into the WRAG, if you choose the latter then you have four 4 weeks from date of the decision to lodge the appeal. I would recommend you speak to your advisor before doing so as they will understand the full extent of your case.

The return to Work date is an opinion and nothing more, based on other members comments they rarely have any basis in fact.

many thanks.
I have submitted an appeal today. The Disability Employment Advisor (I had to see him for a Pathways to Work interview) encouraged me to appeal and thought I would have a good chance of success. My speicalist nurse is going to write a letter/report to support my appeal.
I was quite surprised at how someone workiing for the Jobcentre was critical of the ATOS doctor and the whole way ESA is being managed. The government hasnt really thought this through carefully and staff simply cannot keep up with how it all works. He didnt know if contributory ESA continues if you are in the support group. And he didnt know that the points you scored didnt really make any difference to whethr or not hyou get into the support group.
Thanks again

I note that nothing is asked about the abilty to clean yourself properly after going to the toilet,I`d have thought that being able to do this was quite important in a work environment!

I`d imagine that quite a number of ill or disabled people can wash their front torso, but would be unable to wipe their own backside properly without suffering pain, severe discomfort or breathlessness!

The designer of this test ,Labours Yvette copper has got a lot to answer for !!!
