I have been suffering from stress for many years. For the past 2 years I was diagnosed with PTSD and currently attending treatment with psychiatrist referred to by GP.

Would I be eligible for DLA? mental or physical?

Currently I am on income support. Soon my young child will be 7 years and I have to either apply for ESA or be on job seeker register.

Advise please if PTSD is good case for ESA award?

thanks

  			 				Hi,

I'm afraid it's not possible to answer your question.

Depending on its effects on a claimants' everyday life, PTSD may give rise to eligibility for ESA and of DLA or not.

If it did it would be on mental health grounds. Take a look at our guides to claiming DLA on mental health grounds and the work capability assessment on mental health grounds in the members area.

Hi...I'm not sure if this helps or if it applies in your circumstances but in circumstances of work related PTSD, then an Industrial Injury Disablement Benefit might be applied for... copy following link and search document to see it applies. It might well be that DLA and ESA apply and you will most proably need Medical reports to substatiate a claim.
There are distinctions between stress and Post Traumatic Stress that the report alludes to, which might help.
