PIP instead of DLA (But not for the over 65's)?

Hi
The relevant bit then is in section 81 where it says care and mobility stops at pensionable age. That is a bombshell, I am totally floored by this news, I hadn't realized that this was happening!
So we will no longer need Disability Living Allowance but instead have Personal Independance Payment but when we get to pension age we will no longer be disabled and will lose our independance.

I thought they were reducing claimants by 20% by stiffening the criteria, if pensioners are disallowed then surely they will reduce it by I guess 50%. Is it known what proportion of DLA claimants are currently over pension age?

Regards
a mortified, Peter

How come the media have missed this one? what can we do to highlight it? The consultation paper implied PIP would continue post 65.

I have emailed Age UK as in a paper published recently re future care they said "We would strongly oppose any moves to remove entitlements to disability benefits from older groups, especially given AA is already less generous because it does not include a mobility component"

Petitions seem to have an effect (e.g. the forest sell off) - does anyone know a suitable one to sign?

I see it as the same rule as DLA Mobility component You Cannot claim it after your 65 birhtday.

Whilst you are technically correct, the emphasis is on the word "claim", as in new claim. Currently recipients of DLA care and/or mobility are allowed to continue their claim after retirement
