Can DWP do this with my renewal IB to ESA was created by Lorraine
Hi,
My renewal came for IB in November and I sent it off in December after taking nearlly 4 weeks to complete.
I had not heard so called them to see what was going on, to be told the following:
If I had not heard by March (March starts tomorrow) then they would scrap my IB Claim and someone would telephone me and then start the process for ESA.
I would have thought once instigated it they have to see it through, especially given that starting again will exacerbate
my ill-health.
Advice please
Thanks

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Lorraine,
I'm afraid that it probably is correct, though very unfair.
The DWP are sending out 1,000 letters today to claimants informing them that they are about to be assessed for ESA.
From now on they will, as far as we are aware, only be assessing people for ESA rather than IB, though there will be people who already have IB medicals booked which will still happen.

I think your paper has this seriously wrong, apart from the fact it is at odds with the info we have, the Plymouth offices of the DWP and ATOS could not even come cloase to handling this number of transfer at one time.

Our local Sussex paper has claimed that local incapacity claimants numbering 40,000
will be getting the letter this week.
i think there is a lot of confusion. i just stick to what I read on this site. (-:
