DLA claim was created by rose1
I posted my claim pack on Friday and on Tuesday received a phone call from dwp asking me to confirm my impending hip replacement, they then said that they would
write to my consultant and I would hear in about 2 weeks.
Is this good or bad?

That sounds like a fast response. It sounds positive that they want to hear from your consultant, who will have had time to examine you thoroughly, rather than just relying on a quick Atos examination.

However, assuming that this relates to the mobility aspects of either ESA or DLA, they may draw conclusions as regards how much your mobility may improve after surgery, so why not get in touch with your consultant's secretary and ask him to let you know what his views are on your likely mobility after surgery?

I am delighted to say that I have been awarde the higher rate of mobility and the middle care rate, it has been backdated to january but only lasts for 1 year, should I appeal this or just be happy?

Are you unhappy with the award or the length of time it has been awarded for.

I can't comment on the former, but with regard to the length of the award, with Appeals regularly taking more than a year to be heard, although there are regional variations, you are likely to have to renew before your case is heard, so there would be no advantage to appealing.

The reason for the short award IMO :) is that in a years time you should have recovered from your operation and after having physio ect ect they will be better placed to look at your claim again ... people who work and have a replacement hip can go back to work after 12 weeks ..giving you 12 months allows for infections blood clots and anything else that can make recovery longer than normal
