Cant take any more, can anyone help me please? was created by maninachair
Hi everyone, Just a quick explanation about myself. New to the site, briliiant thanks.
I am 42. I have Osteochondritis of the spine, Miniere's Disease (Vertigo),Metal work in my right leg and ankle which will not mend following a break in 2001. Angina, Asthma and Ambnesia secondary to stress and depression due to all this, so basically forget loads of important things. I cannot walk, in a wheel chair, and looked after by a star of a wife who recieves carers allowance.

I dont know what the new ESA test will bring, ive done the free online test on here and came back as 'in the support group' I also, as far as i can gather past the 'descriptors' and got over 15 points on the work related thingys?
Dont understand that, so basically
1. My wife looks after me, will she have to do an ESA form too? Two young babies to care for also, so who will be my carer?
2. Does anyone have an idea what will happen to me? Will i loose my DLA in the future which i have at the higher amount of both care and mobility?
Will i be eligable for ESA?
I am so worried, even more when i sat crying last night please can someone set me straight?
Thanks and all the best to you all.

Providing that you have been honest with yourself while completing the online test, then there is every reason to believe you would be able to get ESA.
No your wife would not need to fill in an ESA form.
Although the government is making it more difficult to claim DLA, with the potential introduction of PIP, you certainly cannot asssume that you will not be eligible, or even that your current award will be reduced.
You do need to seek face to face advice, if you are thinking about claiming ESA, as you need to have someone who can look over all aspects of your case, so you can make an informed decision as to what to do.
You can contact your local CAB or Welfare Rights office, although they are busy, they should be able to help.
Hope this helps.

Hi Gordon,
Thankyou so much for your advice...a light at the end of the tunnel hopefully.
I wonder how i would get on with the other assessments gordon? You know, the 'limited capability for work thingy'?...Would i have it if i was put in the 'support group'?
I.m so worried about it all....
having someone to talk to is a breath of fresh air though, gives me hope. Thank you.

I'll answer this, but if Gordon spots it, knowing him he'll give a better answer...
There's two stages to ESA.
Firstly, there's the question of whether you have limited capacity for work. That's to say, whether you're too sick to work and should get ESA.
Then there's the question of whether you have limited capacity for work-related activity (stuff like interviews, condition management courses, training courses, and in the future work experience). If you have limited capacity for work-related activity, you get put in the support group and don't have to do it, and if you don't, you get put in the work-related activity group and do have to do it.

Have a quick read of our Understanding ESA guide in the Members area. It explains the whole ESA application process and had details of the the two tests, the first for the Work Related Activity Group and the Support Group.
You need to score 15 points or more to be placed in the WRAG and meet one or more the of the Support Group criteria to be eligible for that.
