Careers Allowance was created by Dardo
Hi - Firstly let me thank B&W for helping me successfully renew my DLA claim (middle rate care & low rate mobility). Your guides are invaluable and I'm convinced without them my chances of getting a good result would have been much lower. My brother cares for me every day and has done so for a number of years, can he claim carers allowance even though he himself claims DLA (high rate mobility)and is currently on JSA. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

You need to get face to face advive from the CAB or a Welfare Rights officer as we do not advise on Carers Allowance.
That said, I do not see how caring for somebody 35 hours/week would be compatible with the JSA requirements to be seeking and available for work.

If you qualify for Carer's Allowance, you may also be entitled to:

Pension Credit
Housing Benefit
Council Tax Benefit

Hi Dardo,
As Gordon rightly says, we cannot advise on Carers Allowance, but regretfully your brother wouldn't be able to be paid CA for you as he's in receipt of JSA, which is what's called an Overlapping Benefit
Hope this is of help.
Pat.

Sorry Dave, but your post wasn't there when I started typing, then posting the link.
As I've advised, JSA and CA, fall into the 'overlapping benefits' rules
Kind regards.
