DLA walking rule

I have just seen my GP's report to DLA.

He states that, in his opinion, I can walk up to 20 metres before experiencing pain and difficulty.

I am a bit reluctant to claim HRM to be honest as I can walk, albeit short distances at a time, and the LRM awarded is fair as far as I am concerned.

I think I am suffering from being ashamed at the thought of claiming HRM. However, the DM has only awarded LRM at a reconsideration that was purely for my care only but they did both and awarded both for 2 years from the same starting date.

Now, there are other points on the GP's report that I reckon would easily qualify me for MRC which is where I expected to be. Again, these seem to have been ignored by the DM.

Just finalising my GL24 at the moment to appeal the Care decision to be honest but am wondering if it is worth discrediting the whole decision as it seems to have totally ignored the GP's report.

Bearing in mind it is probably going to take 12 months minimum before any appeal is heard I may as well go the whole hog or is that treading dangerously?

Really confused as to what to do now. I am beginning to understand (I think) that my conditions are more disabling than I am accepting in myself.

forgot to mention, the DLA specifically ask the following of my GP. Please supply details of day to day variation in the condition(s) (if any) including frequency and duration of exacerbations.

GP reply : Constant difficulties

Surely this is a strong enough statement to show that frequent and prolonged care is required throughout the day and should qualify me for MRC at the least?

Don't feel ashamed in any way, you are simply trying to claim an allowance, that you feel you should be entitled to.

I think the most important part or your submission is to pinpoint how exactly you meet the criteria for the allowance that you are claiming, through the limitations and needs caused by your conditions.

Any medical evidence will strengthen your appeal, and it will help to discredit any ATOS report.

So IMO, it is most pertinent to prove that you fall under the set criteria.

You are obviously aware of the risk involved with appealing to have you're award upgraded.

You have no need to be ashamed of claiming as DLA is recognition of your disability and is therefore to improve your quality of life.
Unfortunately having a disability costs and the more you are awarded will help you meet them.
