SDA to ESA ? was created by Fleur33
Hi just wondering if anyone here has an update on when SDA claimants get transferred to ESA? It was suppose to happen after all IB claimants had been switched, so has this been completed yet?

Also, my youngest stepson has been ill and has heart problems. His Mother is trying to encourage him to claim DLA.However as both my stepsons now live with us, I am worried this may affect my own DLA.They may start investigating my claim and ask me for a medical.I feel so ill that I really could not cope with this. Thanks

The IB/IS/SDA transfer onbly started in April this year and is scheduled to run till April 2014, so I think you still have a while to wait :)

The only reason your stepsons claim for DLA could affect yours, would be if you were supplying care for him that was incompatible with your own claim for DLA.

Thanks Gorden,I'm sorry I thought I'd already posted to thank you for your reply. My DLA is not due for renewal for another two years, will they wait until then to switch me from SDA to ESA? (Then refuse me for both)
I really don't understand how the government think anyone is going to employ us when we are ill! There are millions of fit, young, healthy people claiming job seekers allowance, who can't find work.
I have Angina,Chronic Asthma,M.E Arthritis & Osteoporosis (I have difficult getting up from a sitting position and bending due to my hips and knee)Depression/Anxiety and a bowel disease.
I just wish someone high up would suggest that a GP's/Consultants letter, clarifying a person is not able to work due to their illness, would suffice in claiming a benefit.Surely this way if anyone were lying this would be a sure way of finding out.No evidence no claim!
Instead of wasting money sending everyone for a medical, then having to go to an appeal!
I am only 8 years away from being an OAP.

DLA and the ESA transfer are handled by different departments within the DWP, so it is really unlikely that you will be assessed for both at the same time, except by coincidence.

I would suggest you have a look at both the DLA and ESA claim guides in the Members Only area, this will allow you to familiarise yourself with the questions on the application forms and allow you to start thinking about what evidence you can collect.

Being prepared will help reduce the stress of having to fill in the claim forms, although I know it won't get rid of it completely :(

Has there been any clarification on the order in which the SDA recipients are to be assessed for ESA?

Last time I read any comments on here, there seemed to be no organised programme for the switch-over at all.

Hi C,

This was the way it was supposed to be. :

IB claimants will be transferred based on their re-assessment date, if you have been exempted the PCA, then you are likely to be transferred in the first year. If you have no re-assessment date and are not PCA exempt, then a date has been allocated.

SDA claimants will be assessed later rather than sooner and those receiving IS because of ill health will be transferred last.

If you reach State Retirement Age before April 6 2014, you will not be transferred.

There will be variations from one centre to another to maintain a constant throughput of transferees, which may mean you being called later or sooner than anticipated.

(Copy and pasted from a previous post by Gordon.)

However as you may have gathered this is not the way it is.(Except for the State Retirement Age bit.) :)

cheers
