Got a date for medical assessment was created by mumsgirl
Just wanted to let the folk on here know that I have now got a date for the medical assessment, as I know some people were asking how long it takes to get a date (although I realise everyone is different). I sent my ESA50 off on 13th July 1st class recorded and I got the date today, which is Thurs 8th Sept at 11.30am! So it took nearly 6 weeks to get a date, and just over 2 weeks notice for the appointment, so in total that's about 8 weeks. Wish me luck!!!

Hi many thanks for that and good luck.

Just out of interest what part of the country is that in relation to? Just it may give indication to others in the same area - just the county or such as South West England, Northern Scotland etc will do so as not to pin you down?

Pete

Hi Pete,
It's Glasgow, Cadogan St.

It also says "we have been asked by DWP to carry out a medical assessement.." but I thought it was ATOS that decided whether you need a medical or not after reading your ESA50? Or does it simply mean that when they got the contract part of it was to carry out these assessments if they think they are needed?

It also says in the enclosed DWP leaflet that DWp will look at any reports sent by your doctor, but my doctor refused to give me a report claiming that DWP will ask her for one. I'm just wondering if they DEFINATELY have asked her for a report!

Hi mumsgirl

There is no guarantee that the DWP will contact your GP for information.

Furthermore, if the report that your GP thinks the DWP will ask for is the ESA113 - it's not really a report but just a form asking a few basic questions. You may feel that it's not sufficient and ask your GP for a more detailed letter detailing how your conditions restricts you.

Good luck

Derek

Hi MG,

If you ticked the box giving them permission to contact your G.P., then they should.

However, if you wish to reiterate this, send a letter recorded delivery (keep copy) to the Decision Maker at your local benefits office that sent you your original IB to ESA migration letter.

Make a formal request that the DM contacts your G.P., or any other HCP's that care for you, to obtain evidence before deciding your eligability to ESA.

cheers

Hi guys, thanks for replying,
Derek, I did ask my Gp for a report and she refused because she said they will DEFINATELY ask her for one (I don't know if it's an ESA113 or not but I suspect it is), and if it is I don't feel it's sufficient. She says the patient is the best person to describe their illness. I have started seeing another Gp in the practice and I hope to find out if it's the 'party line' not to write reports for ATOS/DWP. The thing I don't understand is that my GP will write other letters for me to housing, social work and jury letters.
bro58 (you still here?), I sent a copy of the ESA50 to DWP about a week after I sent the orginal to ATOS and I put a letter in it saying that if they needed further info please contact my GP (perhaps I shouldn't have used "if"?). Also this isn't migration. I was orginally awarded ESA wrag in Oct last year, so this is a reassessment (I think that's what it's called?). Should I write to them again?
