Cancelled Appointment - help please anyone? was created by janymac
Hi
My husband went for an Atos appointment last week- only to get to the reception desk to be told that they were surprised he had turned up as they had written to him two days before cancelling it. When he asked why he was told the the doctor had sent in some evidence. She would not say what the outcome was of I was not sure if she just did not know or he was not the right person to say or the decision had not yet been made. She did give him £15 compensation for a wasted trip. Anyway my husband waited to see if the said letter would turn up but by the middle of the following week it had not, so he phoned ATOS which just had a voice message of some sort, and then he rang DWP who said they knew nothing. Does anyone know what usually happens in this situation? Technically he should have been placed in support as he can only walk 20m without out stopping and meets the first decriptor for bowels, but we know that that might be what they assess him as. If it was the GP who sent the evidence then he does not even know my husband as he only came a few weeks ago. he will onlt know the diagnoses ( secondary progressive MS, AS, crohn's). Can somebody confirm exactly who we should be ringing for an outcome and also what the likliest outcome might be? I have read so many people's accounts of this that I am confused and nobody's experience is quite the same.

It sounds like there was sufficient evidence for the ATOS "doctor" to make a recommendation with regard to your husbands claim, without the need for a medical.
The procedure in this situation is that ATOS will return your husbands file to the relevant DWP office, so that a Decision Maker can render a Decision on the claim.
Unfortunately, it is possible for him to be placed in both the WRAG and Support Group without a medical taking place, so there is no way to preempt the Decision.
I would suggest you try contacting your local DWP office again, however, if the DWPs handling of internal mail is anything like its handling of external mail, it may take a week or two for your husbands file to successfully make its way to its destination.
Hope this helps

When you say your file will that file include such things as awards and reports for Industrial disablement benefit, as the medicals for that are done by atos.

According to the WCA Handbook, the ATOS "doctor" is sent the ESA50 and any attached evidence, and if this is a re-assessment, the ESA85(A) from the previous medical.
The documents you refer to should be held in the file retained by the DWP, for the use of the Decision Maker.
