DLA and Income Support was created by TrevorR
If someone is currently getting income support and they then claim DLA, if awarded will it have an effect on the income support currently being paid?

If you get DLA care middle or higher rate you could be entitled to extra money on Income Support the disability or severe disability premium ,that is if no-one is claiming carers allowance for you.If they are then you don't qualify for the premium.

Thanks Pamela s, I read the question as would DLA take away Income Support. Premiums may be payable if getting Medium & Higher rate DLA care. The resources in the Members Only orange section give full guidance.

I should say that I have been a paid member since April this year. I was in receipt of DLA which expired Sept 1st having been awarded for 2 years. Using the guide to DLA for Mental Illness I have just successfully been awarded my DLA back for an indefinite period.I found the pdf extremely useful.
I was actually asking this question for a friend who is in receipt of Income Support but wanted to claim DLA. She has post natal depression which she has had for several years. My understanding from reading the guidance is that PND isn't one of the mental illnesses covered for the award of DLA so I think it is a long shot anyway.
