I can understand your concern. If you could post the details or link giving evidence of awards made without GP being contacted it would be helpful to other members.

These are observations on this and other forums. There appears to be a recent spate of DLA ( new & renewals) being made under these condtiions.
It's more a generalised observation rather than the result of DWP statistics

I am also feeling anxious. It is my first DLA claim and I have had a letter from DWP stating that they are contacting my consultant for further info. I have seen 3 consultants this year - 2 have discharged me as they cannot offer any further treatment and the pain clinic consultant has seen me only once. I did ask them to contact my GP if they needed more info, as he knows me best - which is probably why they didn't!

I will leave this post as a general comment, as we are unable to answer secific questions.
Thank you for providing it.

On my previous DLA claims. The DWP have sent out letters saying they're requesting info from my GP. When in fact they asked my consultant and visa-versa. So they may well be contacting your GP instead, or as well.
It's a standard procedure, but recent posts appear to show the trend is not set in stone.

I was one of the posters who had recently been awarded DLA on a first time claim & given HRM & HRC for 4 years without my GP or any other medic being asked for a report. I don't think you are being paranoid at all just realistically sceptical given the reported wide variations in outcome from the DWP.
When I submitted my claim for DLA it was on the back of a successful reassessment by an Atos doctor for ESA & being moved from the WRAG to the SG.
I therefore not only submitted copies of all reports by my excellent GP & consultant since 2006 but also the ESA85A 05/08 & the ESA85 01/11. Ordinarily, I wouldn't have included the ESA reports but as it was only a matter of a few weeks between the WAC & my DLA claim & the ESA reports were favourable disposed to me I calculated that this time it was more likely to help than hinder.
When I received the decision letter it stated the DM had made his/her decision using only the claim form [which was very detailed] the medical reports I had included & a consultation with an HCP so the calculated decision proved to be positive for me.
Using the B&W guides meant masses of detail was included for each descriptor, often repetitive with lots of cutting & pasting from one descriptor to another.
I do hope you & others are successful with your claims. Best wishes - mayflower
