esa manual wheelchair was created by gary
Is there any good information on arguments against using a manual wheelchair to mobilise under the esa mobilising descriptor?
I already have the one in the forum sticky and was wondering if there is anything else about this

thanks, :)

There is more detailed information on page 26 of the latest ESA Claims on Physical Grounds guide in the Members area.

The Decision Maker needs to show that the expectation of usage is reasonable, this broadly falls into two arguments, is the claimant physically capable of using a manual wheelchair and secondly, are there practical reasons why usage might be prohibitted.

You need to look at your own circumstances, to explain why, for you, the usage would not be reasonable.

Thanks,
Im actually trying to assess if such an aid would be reasonable to use for someone with severe lower back athritis and spinal problems, also as I have never tried using a manual wheelchair Im trying to find out if one would need some strength in the lower back area to be able to reasonably propell it.

This is really a medical question which we are not in a position to offer advice on.

Have you spoken to your GP about this, they may be able to refer you to an Occupational Therapist who can do a wheelchair assessment for you.

Or might tell you that s/he does not consider that a wheelchair would be suitable for you - which would also give you the answer you need.
