Is ESA impacted by PiP claim was created by Mel
Hi,
With my help, and the advice on this site, my daughter has successfully applied for ESA. She was placed straight into the Support Group without needing a face to face assessment, due to her mental health and (presumably) attempted suicides and the risk to her (and others') life and health if she was denied ESA or put into the work related activity group.
That was a relief. I was really worried about the face to face, as its unlikely my daughter would have come across well. It has taken her years to even pluck up the courage to apply, I don't think she could have coped with having to appeal.
Now I have to complete a PIP form for her (and possibly later a claim for carers allowance which I understand is dependant on PIP). From the online test, she is likely to get the daily living component (perhaps enhanced), but probably won't qualify for the mobility component.
What happens if she is called to a face to face for PIP and messes it up, could this cause her ESA to be reviewed?
If the evidence supplied for ESA meant a face to face was not needed, would the same be likely to apply for PIP? I don't think the lack of face to face was due to points, probably more due to the the fact her illness is life threatening, that she will never get fully better and due to various exceptional circumstances and risks that would apply with a face to face or with any work related activity.
One other thing - how do we know when she is likely to be re-assessed for ESA?

Congratulations on your Daughter's ESA award, well done.
We have very occasionally seen a failed PIP claim result in a ESA award being reassessed but it really is quite rare for this to happen, even where the criteria overlap, they are actually quite different.
Because the criteria is different it is possible that she will be called for a face to face assessment, you will have to wait and see what happens. Paper Based Review rates between ESA and PIP are fairly similar.
Contact the DWP office dealing with her ESA claim, they can tell you when her award is likely to be reviewed.
It may also help with the PIP claim if you request a copy of her ESA assessment report, it will be am ESA85A.
