Clarification on ‘DWP CONFIRMS PIP AWARDS WILL CONTINUE’ was created by Kieran
Hi, I have read the article ‘ DWP confirms PIP awards will continue while waiting for planned review’. However, only people on light touch group (10 years) are reviews - all other claims are renewals. Reviews have always been paid from my knowledge until they are processed.
Does that mean people who have returned forms to process a renewal will still be cut off if the backlog doesn’t reach them in time? Not very clear.
Thanks

Good afternoon Kieran,
I have looked in to this subject and what i understand is that Any pip claim where an review is waiting to be processed will continue to receive there pre -review level of benefit. If your needs have changed and if you are waiting on a review you can if needed continue a change of circumstances.
This hopefully be positive news that payments will continue and great relief to many claimants .
If you have sent you renewal form back by the date needed you should receive your regular payments until a decision has been paid by the dwp. Its not very clear tho as you say hopefully more news and updates will be available giving us more insight and more information on this subject .
kind regards
Katherine

Can you let me know once you receive further clarification? As renewals are technically new claims, as it’s the same form. It’s not clear as to wether or not they will ‘detect’ people already in payment and continue making them payments if there’s a new claim / renewal form on file for that same person? Of course there been a back log of 300,000+ cases, it’s likely going to take more than 3 or 4 months to process the renewal prior to payment ‘ending’.
It’s ridiculous that it isn’t a review only scheme, like WCA are - as ultimately the current system implies your condition will disappear unless you have an indefinite award.

To complicate matters even further, I was awarded by the tribunal and to my knowledge they don’t automatically issue renewals. However, I’ve been told if the award was at least 3 years (which it was) I should still be able to renew.
Assuming I manually request the forms and return them PRIOR to the end date of the form, would the same continues payments whilst waiting for an assessment apply?
If you aren’t sure, who could I contact to clarify? I currently have a pip award ending in October 2022, awarded by the tribunal for the period October 2017 to October 2022.

Hi Kieran
You may find the following information and link useful.
DWP Minister Chloe Smith advised that, as of 31 January 2022 (based on the most recent data available), there were around 220,000 registered PIP award reviews that were awaiting a decision. questions-statements.parliament.uk/writt...il/2022-03-14/139252

Hi Kieran
With Tribunal cases it is hit or miss as to whether or not you get sent a renewal, quite often we hear on the forum from members whose claim has stopped, it turns out that they won their appeal at a Tribunal.
If you win at a Tribunal we advise claimants to contact DWP 6 months before the end of their claim for a review form, sometimes they get one but more often they get a new claims form.
I don't personally think it makes much different as we advise claimants to treat a review form as if you were applying for PIP for the first time, the only difference is that you can use your original form (if you kept a copy) as a template.
