Campaigners need just £500 more to send every Westminster MP a copy of John Pring’s new book,  “The Department: How a Violent Government Bureaucracy Killed Hundreds and Hid the Evidence” as well as organising an event in parliament to discuss the content.

A fortnight ago, we asked readers ‘Can you help inspire Labour MPs to fight benefits crackdown?’.

The aim was to raise £3,500 to send every Labour MP a copy of the book.  But so many of you responded that the target was easily passed and so organisers, Black Triangle, are now hoping to reach their stretch target of £7,000 with 10 days left to do so.

Campaigning journalist John Pring has spent the last decade painstakingly researching the way that the DWP have covered up flaws in processes such as the work capability assessment and the safeguarding of vulnerable claimants, leading to the deaths of hundreds – or even thousands – of claimants.

With income-related ESA claimants still due to be moved to universal credit from next month and the likelihood of major changes to benefits being announced this Autumn, it is vital that as many MPs as possible learn the truth about the dangers involved.

We know from your comments, that whilst many supported this attempt to educate MPs, others were sceptical that the book would be read.

Our view at Benefits and Work is that if even a handful of MPs are won over to the idea that welfare reform can kill, unless genuine safeguards are put in place and properly – and independently – overseen, then that will be a real victory.

No-one is expecting a mass revolt, but if enough MPs are asking hard questions and putting forward objections before any legislation is passed, it could make a real difference to what is contained in any forthcoming bill.

One thing is beyond doubt:  doing nothing will give the DWP free reign to carry on negligently  killing claimants and covering up their deaths.

You can support Black Triangle’s crowdfunder here.

Just read the book, of which I found it to be extremely well researched and written.  The book itself is astonishing in revealing the hidden truths, and real facts covering decades of wrongly doings by all the political parties.  John Pring did a tremendous job on his research. and parts of his book are quite disturbing, and upsetting as he describes some of the victims, and what they had to endure, suffer & die at the hands of the DWP, and its 3rd party's,  corporations etc.

The book to my mind shows how history is repeating itself as in respect to the violence the DWP and its politicians, civil servant etc have forced upon claimants spanning a few decades. And as the author describes the real truth of how many people have died at the hands of the DWP will never be known.  But more likely in its thousands.  The book reveals how callous, and heartless, the past and present governments have been towards disabled claimants.  All in the name of cutting costs.

And yet still to this day no one has been made accountable.

My book arrived earlier this morning.  Also you get the epub book too, that is if when you placed your order you put in the tick saying you wanted the electronic book too.  Both at the same price.
Then you create an account log in, and download the XXXXXXXXX.epub book.

Just installed the ebook app, and the epub book works.  Will start reading it over the next few days.

@mrfibro If we can gather together 20000 disabled claimants and all stump up 50 pounds that is 1 million quid we could hire lawyers and take out a class action against the government when there plans are clear thus using there own money against them you or Mr wibblum could be our leader

@Angel Labour has knocked the winter fuel allowance on the head for over 10 million pensioners.  Labour will not think twice about knocking pip cash payments on the head for 3.5 million claimants if they can get away with it.

@Angel Nothing has been debated or decided by the Government and won't be until Parliament resumes. Any proposed changes would then need to be voted on in the HOC and then passed to the HOL for scrutiny before being passed into legislation.
The articles are nothing more than click bait.

I am reading the book now but don't see any press about it anywhere.  Has anyone else seen any press about it?  Surely it should be making headlines.....

why not ask Pluto Press for a free digital pdf to send or to post as a link?  An excerpted copy is available on Pluto Press website.  A digital pdf that can be quickly scanned is more likely to be read, and less likely to be lost, and saves paper.  Pluto Press is a radical book publisher, and often allows pdfs to be posted online.

@John McArdle Thank you John McArdle for you and Black Triangles amazing work.  I contributed to The department book (campaign to be given to all MPs)but obviously all of us can get terribly worried about our bank statements being looked at. I'm glad the total has been reached and this week the book will be launched.  I wonder if it will have any effect so many of us sincerely hope so.  Much appreciated 👍

Nothing ever changes does it,its always hammer the disabled, because they think that we will never fight back.
This government just like the last one, should hang its head in utter shame.
The problem being that they have never lived in the real world and do not know what its like to financially and medicaly struggle day to day.
I will try and support this fine cause tomorrow.

Thanks to B&W I've got PIP enhanced x2. I've sent a contribution, a small fraction of what I've gained.

A friend of a friend did not die directly because of DWP but he did die of the conditions that they had dismissed as insignificant, before his Appeal could be heard.

@denby No need to sugar coat it.  The truth is your friends, friend of a friend died because of the DWP's actions of failure, and total gross incompetence regarding a vulnerable persons life.
