Did your friend get asked to apply for the severe disability premium? If you get standard PIP you are entitled to this and its £61 per week so well worth looking into before they abolish it under UC.
Lots of people don't appear to be getting advised about this by the DWP who used to automatically send the form out but as long as she lives alone and no-one's getting carer's for her she should get it.

Hi Gordan, thank you for you help.
My friend has changed over to income related she is being paid only one month backpay even though she was entitled to claim income related esa and was mis advised by her welfare officer they say it's the law that they can only pay one month backpay. Do you know if is this correct thanks again Xx

It's rubbish, it should be backdated to the first day that they were eligible. Despite the form, SDP is not something that a claimant has to claim for, entitlement is automatic when they meet the eligibility criteria, it was a failure of the DWP not to administer their claim properly that meant that payment was not made.
I would recommend that the get face to face advice as this is not really a matter that we can help with on the forum, they need someone who can write on their behalf to the DWP pointing out the error.

Yes I was surprised to get a letter relating to ESA from DWP after my PIP assessment which just said my rate was increasing to X.. it didn't say why.. I had to work out it was 'SDP' by looking at the difference and tallying it up on rates..
Nobody told me about this premium when I applied for DLA.. which with hindsight I would have taken into consideration when presented with a decision, which I just accepted at the time as I had been through so much trauma..
Also discovered recently that some people are exempt from council tax if they receive an eligible benefit and that applies to me due to autism.. again this wasn't brought to my attention .. anybody who has a mental or social impairment check your local council tax web pages there's a simple form you get your GP or consultant to fill in and backdated from when you first received the eligible benefit

Hi Skintmember22,
Just to reinforce Gordon's advice, have a read through : This Topic and the information from the links therein.
This issue of back payment of Premiums has been going on for some years.
