In my opinion, this could be the cause of the problem. DWP would probably assume that you had suddenly come into a large amount of money (so that you could buy a house). This will be particularly relevant if you claim an income-related benefit.

Living in the house should not be a problem, but if there was a period of time where you had ownership of the house and were not living in it then it might effect your ESA if you are receiving Income Related ESA in part or in whole. If this is the case then get face to face advice.
